Check how many links the tool recognizes on a specific public web page. The result can provide a quick inventory of the page’s linking activity and, when the report includes categories, show how links are divided between internal and external destinations. Use that inventory to investigate repeated navigation, unexpected destinations, and areas that need manual review.
Link quantity is not link quality. A large count does not prove that a page is useful or well structured, and a small count does not mean that links are missing.
Many links come from site-wide components rather than the page’s main content. Headers, expanded menus, footers, related-content cards, language selectors, social icons, and repeated calls to action can add dozens of link occurrences.
A count can help you identify questions worth investigating:
The checker examines the submitted page, not every URL on the domain. Check representative pages separately if you are comparing articles, product pages, category pages, or other templates.

Suppose an article produces a result of 86 recognized links: 71 internal and 15 external. The number initially appears high, but the editor reviews the page by section rather than deleting links immediately.
The editor finds that the header contributes 18 internal link occurrences, the footer contributes 24, related-content cards contribute 12, and the article itself contains 17. That accounts for the 71 internal links. Of the 15 external links, nine are relevant sources in the article and six come from social or company links in the footer.
This review changes the interpretation. The article is not necessarily overloaded with editorial links; much of the total comes from its template. During the inspection, however, the editor notices an expired campaign destination in the footer. Because the footer appears across many pages, that unexpected link becomes a higher-priority review target than the article’s overall count.

There is no universal target number. A research article may need numerous citations, while a short confirmation page may need only a few navigation options. Context, relevance, destination, anchor wording, and placement matter more than reaching an arbitrary total.
Do not assume that the reported total represents unique destinations. The same URL may appear in a menu, footer, logo, and body text. Fragments such as #pricing, tracking parameters, alternate protocols, or trailing-slash variations may also be treated differently depending on the checker’s method.
Removing useful links merely to reduce the number can make navigation or supporting material worse. First separate repeated template links from editorial links, then review each group according to its purpose.
The checker may analyze links available in the retrieved markup but miss links inserted later by JavaScript, revealed only after a visitor interacts with a control, or served differently according to device, region, consent state, or login status. A site may also block or redirect automated requests, causing the retrieved version to differ from the page in your browser.
A count does not validate every destination, assess anchor text, identify all technical link attributes, or diagnose search performance.
